There’s this new trend and its the epitome of indulgence and faux high-classedness, birthdays at Hotels instead of restaurants. Somehow, the coffee and drinks at a hotel is so much more alluring than at a restaurant, even comparing to great restaurants like Tasha’s and Piza e Vino. Friends are having birthdays at the Hyde Park Southern sun, Sandton Sun, the Hyatt and, the Fire & Ice Protea Hotel.
A while back we stumbled across the amazing Milkshakes at the Fire& Ice. They’ve also got a nice relaxed outdoor lounge with views of their pool. about 20 of us gathered there for a godo friends 20th birthday and just ordered milkshakes. I tasted quite a few, oreaos, Tempo, Ferrero a caramel and Bar One flavour as well. There is definitly NO shortage of flavours to choose from. The atmosphere is great and the service, while slightly inefficient and slow was pretty average (average being,thank goodness the waiter wasn’t rude or abrasive).
Its unfortunate you can’t sit around the pool on their beautiful couches after 8pm though.
